Kyla Roades Farkas
Hello! I am Kyla, an artist and grad student based in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Ever since I was a kid, I loved creating and starting in about fifth grade I committing myself to actually getting technically better. When I was 14 I got my first professional set of watercolors for $24 (which I thought was so expensive) but I still use that set to this day.
Nature and spaces that feel sacred have been some of my biggest inspirations and I hope to share the beauty and glory I see in them with you through my art. Another of my biggest inspirations has been big feelings. I often use art as a way to express the inexpressible.
My favorite mediums to work in right now are watercolor and spray paint, but I also often use ink pens, markers, and acrylic paint.
Some of my favorite things to do, besides making art, are any sort of movement outside (eg. running, biking…), listening to podcasts about theology, studying Psychology and Spanish, and having long conversations.

What Does Phthlo Art Mean?
The word phthalo (sometimes spelled “thalo”) comes from a specific type of family of synthetic pigments derived from copper that create rich blue and green colors. I find these colors most striking and alluring as they can reflect some of the deepest ocean blues, skies filled with clouds, trees growing hundreds of feet tall, to a tiny sprout poking out of the ground. I added “Art” behind it because, well, this is all about art.
